Water has always been precious commodity and with population pressures, climate change, and economic stresses, water is evermore central to human survival and prosperity. California has a long history of water conflicts and it is not getting easier. Two countries, Singapore and Australia, have been similarly affected. These countries have implemented some policies and projects that have enabled them to evolve out of the crisis. This presentation highlights the water management strategies employed by Singapore and Australia.

Speakers Bio

Soma Bhadra, P.E. is the CEO of PROTEUS Consulting, a boutique engineering firm that provides engineering and management consulting engineering services in the water, wastewater and recycled water industry. PROTEUS Consulting is known for its creativity and problem-solving skills, and clients appreciate the individual attention this small, flexible firm is able to provide. Service offerings include: Traditional Engineering, Design-Build Engineering, Grants and Regulatory Compliance, Management Consulting, and Sustainability Frontiers.

Soma has a BE is Civil Engineering from Bengal Engineering College, India; and a MS in Environmental Engineering from University at Buffalo (SUNY). Soma has over 13 years of experience in design, construction, and operation of water, wastewater, ultra-pure, and recycled water treatment plants and conveyance systems. She has lived and worked in Australia, Singapore, and US (NY, CA, NC) and has a broad and unique perspective about the water related issues and solutions from around the globe. Soma lives in San Diego with her husband and two adorable poodles. In her spare time she cooks fusion cuisine and also teaches Indian cooking classes.
