San Diego, CA - October 2025 - What began as a friendship between two cities has grown into a bridge for global opportunity. Earlier this month, the North San Diego Business Chamber completed a successful Delegation Trip to Japan, deepening ties with leaders, innovators, and businesses in Yokohama and beyond.
This year’s trip was made possible thanks to the strong connections forged in 2024, when the Chamber had the honor of hosting the Yokohama City Council and Mayor in collaboration with the San Diego–Yokohama Sister City Society. From that visit, the idea took root - to build lasting economic and cultural relationships between our two regions.

Fast forward one year, and that vision came to life. The Chamber delegation began its journey in the vibrant city of Yokohama, meeting with City Council members led by Taro Suzuki, Secretary General of the Yokohama–San Diego Friendship Committee, and engaging in discussions with City Ministers and Ms. Tomomi Yamashita, Director General of the International Affairs Bureau. The group also met with Kenji Mori, President of the Yokohama Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to explore future collaboration between our business communities.
No trip to Yokohama would be complete without innovation - and plenty of it. Delegates attended inatomirai Campus and Tech Hub Yokohama, where the spirit of innovation thrives.
The delegation also learned from the incredible 40-year redevelopment journey of Yokohama’s Minato Mirai 21 District, an inspiring example of urban renewal done right. From shipyards to skyscrapers, the district now supports hundreds of businesses, 600,000 residents, and a dynamic mix of culture, commerce, and creativity.
Of course, the trip wasn’t all business. Delegates enjoyed time in Osaka, exploring historic Osaka Castle and the lively streets of Dotonbori, experiences that reminded everyone that culture is at the heart of every strong connection.

As the Chamber looks ahead, future engagement opportunities are already on the horizon, including a visit to Green x Expo Yokohama 2027, an event that celebrates living in harmony with nature and reimagining the future of sustainable urban life.
The North San Diego Business Chamber extends its sincere gratitude to the San Diego–Yokohama Sister City Society for their partnership and to the City of Yokohama for their warm hospitality. Together, we’re paving the way for ongoing collaboration, innovation, and friendship across the Pacific.
