Leadership Academy: Leading Across Generations: Panel Discussion
Designed to empower emerging leaders with the strategies, insights, and skills required to effectively lead and collaborate with individuals from diverse generations within the modern workplace.
Guided by seasoned experts in generational dynamics and leadership, the workshop will delve into:
- Understanding Generational Differences: Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the distinct values, communication styles, and work preferences of different generations in the workforce. The workshop will emphasize the importance of empathy and adaptability in bridging generational gaps.
- Effective Communication: Attendees will explore communication techniques that resonate with each generation's preferences. From traditional to digital communication methods, the workshop will offer insights into fostering clear and respectful cross-generational interactions.
- Mentoring and Reverse Mentoring: Participants will discover the benefits of mentoring across generations, including the practice of reverse mentoring, where younger generations mentor older ones. The workshop will highlight the mutual learning opportunities this approach offers.
- Adapting Leadership Styles: Attendees will explore adaptable leadership styles that resonate with the preferences of different generations. From providing autonomy to offering structured guidance, the workshop will emphasize tailoring approaches for optimal results.
- Managing Conflicts: The workshop will provide strategies for managing conflicts that may arise from generational differences. Attendees will learn to navigate disagreements while maintaining a respectful and productive work environment.
- Promoting Inclusivity: Given the diverse multigenerational workforce, the workshop will offer insights into creating an inclusive culture that values the contributions of all generations.
- Fostering Continuous Learning: The workshop will emphasize the importance of ongoing learning and professional development for all generations. Attendees will explore strategies to support growth and skill enhancement.
Speakers
Sarah Hassaine, Director of Diversity & Inclusion, ResMed
Sarah Hassaine is the Head of Inclusion and Diversity at the digital sleep health
company ResMed. She has ten years of experience in the D&I space, starting at
Amazon where she helped with recruiting and retaining women in Applied Sciences,
and then at Qualcomm where she led their conference engagement, affinity group
expansion, leadership support, and their inclusion building programs and initiatives
for more than four years. At ResMed, Sarah leads the team’s implementation and design of a global strategy, expanding their knowledge of D&I concepts, growing the impact of
their affinity groups, and working closely with leaders and stakeholders across the company.
Prior to finding her niche, Sarah worked as a Government contractor with Deloitte, then in international development and government consulting around
the world. She worked at InterNews supporting democracy development in the MENA region, and in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, leading an organization for up-skilling and training ex-pat women. Sarah is very devoted to community empowerment and has done work in cross-cultural and intra-faith initiatives. At home in San Diego, she devotes her time to refugee assimilation efforts, as well as across the border in Mexico with orphanages.
Sarah currently serves on three Boards - the Southwest chapter of Planned Parenthood, the Kim Center for Social Balance championing workplace equity, and the North San Diego Business Chamber.
Sarah earned her Executive MBA from the Wharton Business School at UPenn in 2021, her MA in Policy from George Washington University, and her BA in International Affairs from UC San Diego. She is trilingual, fluent in both French and Arabic. Her strengths lie in strategy, change management, cultural growth and transformation,
M&A , branding, PR, reporting, and community outreach.
Elizabeth Strout, LCSW, Clinic Director Ellie Mental Health San Diego
Elizabeth (Liz) Strout is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Clinic Director of Ellie Mental Health San Diego. As a LCSW she values being a compassionate, inclusive, authentic leader, supporting persons of all ages and experiences in mental health need for over 14 years. Liz spent most of her career working in community mental health, providing care for the underserved populations. During this time, Liz oversaw county contracted programs serving 500-600 clients with 90+ full time employees. She has managed all levels of staff from direct care case managers, master’s level clinicians, team leads, clinical directors and program managers. Her focus is on collaborating with a network of organizations, community members and other Clinicians to improve access to care, break the stigma and provide quality mental health services to all of San Diego. She finds purpose in empowering each person with individual care on their recovery journey to reach their full potential. Day to day, Liz loves to spend time with her two Boston Terrier puppies, Luna and Winston. When looking for adventure, Liz travels the U.S. enjoying live shows by her favorite musicians.
