Tell us about your company.

As a Veteran Integration Consultant, my mission is to guide employers to be strategic with the on-boarding and retention of military veterans.

Becoming an employer of choice for veterans involves developing a retention strategy that supports veteran hiring initiatives, and navigates the cultural divide between civilians and veterans. I provide the training, guidance and advice to successfully integrate and assimilate veterans into your organization.

What was the most memorable or successful moment in your business’ history?

The success stories I live for are the ones where veterans find their next mission at an employer that fully realizes the value they bring to the organization.  The veteran feels like they have a new purpose, they are aligned with the culture and the company gives them the opportunity to use their full complement of hard and soft skills.
 

Tell us an interesting fact about your business.

I have a unique perspective on the veteran transition process - I have seen it from all sides.  Made my transition out of the U.S. Marine Corps in 1980.  Served as a mentor, manager and key stakeholder in the award-winning Qualcomm Corporate Integration Program for Warrior Veterans and served as a pro-bono Executive Coach and then as Director of People for The Honor foundation, a unique transition institute serving the Special Operations community.
 

What tips/advice can you offer that is related to your business' industry?

Veterans have a lot to offer - transferable skill sets, strong work ethic, ability to work under pressure, leadership, teamwork. Employers are eager to tap into this incredible talent pool. But once companies hire them, do they know how to keep them?

The challenge is veterans often feel like cultural misfits - they are undervalued, under-employed and often misunderstood. The result - nearly 45% of veterans leave their first civilian job within 12 months. Nobody wins.
