As discussed at our Military Affairs Advisory Council meeting Sept 5, our CEO Chris Thorne was invited to the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity and the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee bipartisan/bicameral roundtable focused on the Military to Civilian Transition Process, including the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) administered by the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Defense, and Labor.
The North San Diego Business Chamber, with your expertise and insight, will serve to inform other invested parties on potential gaps in services or issues associated with TAP and the transition that servicemembers across the armed services experience as they become a veteran. We aim to inform congressional staff on ways to continue modernizing and reforming the program through solutions that benefit veterans and their families. During this roundtable, YOUR Chamber will share your input on improving and modernizing the current transition process to focus on success after service.
The primary topics include:
• Potential Improvements for the Transition Assistance Program
• Evaluation of gaps in services and servicemembers’ and dependents’ accessibility to services
• Consistency across the Services/ OSD support in accordance with mission readiness
• Retiring/ separating/ spousal employment barriers
• Unique transition issues in the Guard and Reserve components
