SUMMARY:Discovery Series: Nadir Khashimov\, violin
DESCRIPTION:Playing on a 185-year-old instrument\, international award-winning violinist Nadir Khashimov will grace the stage at the California Center for the Arts\, Escondido (the Center) on Jan. 19\, 2014. His performance will be the second installment of the nonprofit cultural organization?s new Discovery Series\, presented in conjunction with the La Jolla Music Society. Due to the popularity of its classical music programming\, the Center added the Discovery Series to its roster for the 2013-14 season. Like the La Jolla Music Society series of the same name\, the Center?s Discovery Series highlights young\, up-and-coming artists who are making a name for themselves on the world stage. Many are familiar with the Music Society's well-established Discovery Series\, which has found much success with San Diego audiences over the years. That series has a long history\, having grown out of LJMS's Young Artists of Excellence Series\, which was initiated in 1991 to "present tomorrow's stars to today." Now\, for the first time this season\, the Center is bringing the popular concert series featuring emerging musicians to North County audiences. Khashimov will perform in the Center Theater at 3 p.m. on Sun.\, Jan. 19. Appearing with orchestras the world over\, the violinist is praised for his virtuosity. Playing on a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume violin from 1828\, Khashimov embodies the passion and elegance of classical music. Jan. 19 program Khashimov will play five pieces for Center Theater audiences: Mozart: Violin Sonata in A major\, K. 526 Franck: Violin Sonata in A major\, M. 8 Bach: Chaconne Saint-Sa ns: Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso in A minor\, Op. 28 Wieniawski: Variations for Violin on an Original Theme\, Op. 15
