Tell us about your company.

I'm a Marine whose wife had an awful experience planning our own wedding while I was deployed. I saw the emotional drain, stress, and unnecessary tension created by the venue and planners and decided with my background in operational planning, supply chain, management, leadership, and general ability to get things done that I could help others avoid my wife's stressful experience. So I started Shadetree Gardens, a private event venue nestled in the rolling hills north of Escondido along the 15. I am currently in the beginning phases of acquisition and development with the ability to host up to 125 now and plans to increase capacity, incrementally, to 400. Customer segments are focused on weddings, corporate events, wellness events, private events, and local community (military, schools, and government) events. I hold a special place in my heart for those who are trying to help others succeed in one way or another, so I currently doing some homework on organizations that are doing just that who I can help give back to through my venue.

What products or services does your business provide?

Set in the midst of an active avocado grove, the venue provides multiple indoor and outdoor sites that can be used for a wide variety of event types. Our company is guided by nine core values that drive us to provide the best experience for our clients. Accommodations for small groups are also available for multi-day events. My general manager has done a fantastic job of building relationships with vendors to provide the best experience for our clients. The intent is to take the stress out of the event planning and create an environment for truly memorable and enjoyable events.

What was the most memorable or successful moment in your business' history?

Founded in 2019, I spent most of the year doing due diligence to ensure the idea was feasible and an actual need beyond my own personal experience. Within that year though, Don McDougal spent multiple days and weekends answering questions, touring me around his property, allowing me to see behind the scenes as his company hosted clients, and really encouraged me to continue on my journey. That concept of giving back will not be soon forgotten.

Tell us an interesting fact about your business.

So far just about everyone I have met and explained the model to thinks it's hilarious that a Marine with my background is starting a "wedding company"...regardless of how many times I explain its a venue not a wedding planning company.

What tips/advice can you offer that is related to your business' industry?

Listen, verify, be humble, be kind, be patient, treat others with respect, learn from yours and others mistakes, do not repeat mistakes, and do not give up regardless of the obstacles.

Do you have any upcoming events or information you want your fellow Chamber Members and the community to know about?

As we expand our capacity and open our doors fully, we will host an opening gala. More details on date to come.
