Business chamber honors nine members for their leadership

Nine individuals were honored for their leadership during the North San Diego Business Chamber’s annual Celebration of Business.
Those honored at the June 27 event held at the Bernardo Winery were Michiko Araki from Sony Electronics, Laura Ash from Sony Electronics, Gerry Borja from Oracle, Edward Hadfield from the Rincon Fire Department, Neal Hoss from California State University San Marcos, Reema Poddar from Teradata Corporation, Dr. Eunice Sanchez-Mata from Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group, Tony Teravainen from Support The Enlisted Projects (STEP) and Katherine Zimmer from Visit Escondido.
They were among 32 individuals nominated for a leadership award, said NSDBC President and CEO Debra Rosen.
“We changed the format this year from business awards to leadership awards,” Rosen said. “Member companies were invited to submit nominations to recognize individuals who have positively impacted another individual, business or community.
“The reason we changed the format was because there are now so many business award programs in the region and it has become a common event,” Rosen said. “The chamber always wants to stay ahead of what the market is doing and realized it is great leadership that makes strong companies. We felt that it takes leadership to make companies what they are and chose to focus on that this year.”
Rosen said the chamber still honors member companies and the impact they have on their employees and/or community, but instead of announcing the Business Impact Awards at the annual event, two are given on a monthly basis during the chamber’s Regional Connect networking mixers....
